$30 smog retest terms
One discounted retest for the same vehicle at the same station within 30 calendar days of the original paid, failed inspection. The retest is $21.75; if the vehicle passes, the $8.25 state certificate brings the total to $30. If it fails again, the retest is $21.75. A completed inspection that fails because readiness monitors are not ready counts as the retest. An inspection we abort costs nothing and does not use the retest; the 30-day window still applies. Additional retests and returns after 30 days are charged at posted regular prices. Repairs are not included.
Because we're a STAR station, the retest counts even when your DMV renewal notice says it has to be done at one.

The inspection
We run the same state inspection your car's model year calls for.
Your report
You leave with a new vehicle inspection report that shows whether the car passed. It also lists any open safety recalls on the vehicle.
Before you come back
The most common reason a retest goes sideways has nothing to do with the repair itself. When a battery is disconnected or replaced, or trouble codes are cleared, the car's readiness monitors reset. Drive normally for a week or two so they can finish before the retest. And if the check engine light is on, a vehicle will not pass, so wait until it stays off.
If it doesn't pass again
The path is the same as the first time. Emissions repairs are done at a test-and-repair or repair-only station of your choice; you can find a licensed one with BAR's Auto Shop Locator. A failed discounted retest is $21.75; additional retests and returns after 30 days are charged at posted regular prices. Some emissions repairs may be covered by your manufacturer's warranty, so check your owner's manual before you pay for parts.

How much is a smog retest?
$21.75 for the retest, plus the $8.25 state certificate if the car passes, for $30 total. It's one retest for the same vehicle within 30 calendar days of a paid, failed inspection at this station. You approve the estimate before the inspection starts.
Do I have to retest at the station that failed my car?
The retest has to be at a STAR station if your DMV renewal notice requires one; otherwise any test-and-repair or test-only station can do it. We're a STAR station, so either way we can handle it. Note that the $30 smog retest price applies only when the failed paid inspection was here; a car that failed elsewhere pays our regular price.
Can I come right after the repair?
If the repair involved disconnecting the battery or clearing codes, drive normally for a week or two first so the readiness monitors can reset. A completed test that fails on monitors counts as your retest, so call us if you're unsure.
What if my check engine light came back on?
With the check engine light on, a vehicle will not pass. Have it looked at by a repair station of your choice before the retest.
Do you offer repairs?
No. We're a test-only station, which means we do smog checks but not emissions repairs. You choose the repair station.
